One intensely strange phenomena that I recently observed in Singapore is that many (maybe all?) Christian churches do not celebrate Jesus' Ascension Day and the Pentecost Day. I don't know why. What's the reason? Is it practical or theological? But this issue quite bothers me.
Our Christian faith based on history, the salvation history. The Christmas Day, Good Friday, Easter, Ascension Day and then summed up with the Pentecost Day are events that simply cannot be forgotten. They shape up our faith, they explain our faith. Churches can just ignore and forget Mother's Day, Father's Day or any other day, although those events are worthy to celebrate, but we just cannot ignore and forget the events that shape our faith. Those events are tightly connected. We can't imagine Christmas Day without Good Friday since that is the purpose of His coming. We can't imagine Good Friday without Easter otherwise Jesus would not be our Savior. We can't imagine Easter without Ascension since Jesus said "I came from the Father and have come into the world; again, I am leaving the world and am going to the Father," it was round trip. And we can't imagine Ascension without Pentecost since Jesus said that it was one of His purpose to go back to heaven.
So why do the Christian churches in Singapore only celebrate Christmas, Good Friday and Easter? Can anybody explain what is the reason?
